Historic patrician house in the oldest part of Susch
In the lower area Engadin, it is as if you’ve been transported into a fairy tale. On both sides of the east-flowing river »Inn«, where quaint Engadin houses, old castles and magnificent hotels, nestle harmoniously against the steep slopes of the mountains.
These historic houses are found in the mountain village of Susch, which lies at 1438 meters above sea level at the confluence of the Inn and the Susasca, which flows from the famous Flüelapass. As the very first house of the old village of Surpunt, »Chastè« rises beautifully at the meadow on the slope. Along with the Planta tower and the gothic church, it forms a striking ensemble of buildings of a unique beauty.
During the first years of the 17th century, the estate was claimed by Capuchin monks who ran a distillery in the neighbouring buildings, which are now occupied by the Museum of Susch (know as »Muzeum Susch«). In the 19th century, »Chastè« was converted into a residential building along with the barn and the economy wing.
Just eight minutes away from the main town of Zernez, there are many shops and restaurants to enjoy for your daily needs. Such as supermarkets, village-shops and even a museum-restaurant. The two municipalities share preschools, primary and secondary schools.
Susch is quite influential to the development of Engadin, for having turned it into a Mecca for art lovers and enthusiasts. Through the contribution of collector and patron Grazia Kulczyk, the museum of Susch opened for contemporary art in January 2019.

Switzerland's oldest and largest national park is right at the doorstep of the »Chastè« property, which has been a UNESCO biosphere reserve since 1979. During winter, it takes just 20 minutes to reach the Scholl-Motta Naluns ski resort, with 80 kilometers of snowy slopes. Cross-country skiers enjoy gorgeous views while sporting along a 28 kilometer trail along the Inn river.
Today, »Chastè« has two residential areas: a granny flat on the west side, with the main flat extending over the ground and first floor on the east side. The estate is under monument protection, however, there is plenty of potential for additional living spaces such as guest rooms, a wine cellar or even a secondary granny flat.
As the classic »Engadine Stüva« (Engadine living rooms), the spacious living room is entirely furnished with Swiss stone pine and continues into a cosy lounge, which is currently the master bedroom. On the upper floor, there is a large bathroom and two children's, or guest bedrooms, further embellished in the calming stone pine wood. On the southern side, there is a large, unused space where various rooms could be set up. This area has the potential to be furnished into a spacious loft or studio, along with the possibility to expose the lovey beams of the roof.
There are so many possibilities to add more living space, or to transform it. »Chastè« grants a wonderful opportunity, to set up a comfortable home for the whole family on the meadow, in the middle of an enchanting mountain landscape.
