»Collection Nobilis Estate No. 9«
A property with numerous possible uses
Like the ideal image of a country estate, a castle nestles picturesquely on the sunny slope of the lake ridge, between the Thur Valley in the south and Lake Constance in the north. From the elegant Baroque castle with its moat, chapel and cheerful south façade, you can enjoy a sweeping view over fields, meadows and forests. On clear days, the snow-covered Alpine panorama glitters on the horizon.
»Collection Nobilis Estate No. 9« consists of a west and south wing and a short east wing, which, together with a castle chapel, are grouped around an idyllic courtyard with a splashing fountain. Inside, magnificent Baroque and Rococo stucco ceilings, elegant parquet floors, a classicist fireplace room and many other lovingly restored details leave a lasting impression. With its numerous rooms arranged in series, the castle is suitable as a private country and family residence, multi-family house, boutique hotel, gourmet restaurant, seminar centre or company headquarters.
The location combines rural idyll with excellent accessibility: Kreuzlingen, Konstanz, Frauenfeld and Stein am Rhein are around a 15-minute drive away. Schaffhausen and Winterthur can be reached in around 30 minutes by car, and the city of Zurich in less than 45 minutes. Farm shops and a primary school are nearby, with further shopping facilities and schools in Müllheim and Steckborn.
Beautiful walking trails lead directly from the castle through Bachtobel and to places of interest – such as the Baroque church in the village of Homburg, Pfyn with its traces of settlements from the Early Neolithic and Roman periods, or Stein am Rhein with its wonderfully preserved old town. On Lake Constance, other castles, wineries, lidos and various water sports invite you to enjoy yourself. In Lipperswil, a golf course and a leisure park complete the offer.

The origins of the castle date back to the 13th century: the ministerial family of Klingenberg built a castle visible from afar on the rock behind the present-day castle. Heinrich II of Klingenberg (c. 1240–1306), canon of Zurich, patron of the minstrel Hadlaub and bishop of Constance, is the most prominent representative of the family. After the decline of the Klingenberg family, the Haidenheim family took over the judicial authority.
In 1651, the complex was acquired by the Muri monastery in Aargau, which pursued an ambitious Baroque building programme as part of the Counter-Reformation. Numerous coats of arms of the builder, Prince-Abbot Plazidus Zurlauben, bear witness to this at the castle. After several fires, the current Baroque three-wing complex gradually emerged. In the course of secularisation in 1841, the castle became privately owned, and the medieval castle was demolished. In the 20th century, the Santo family brought the historic walls to life with a restaurant. Since 1960, a comprehensive restoration programme has been carried out with the participation of the monument protection authorities.
The baroque castle derives its special charm from the harmonious interplay of architecture, history and landscape. The magnificent ballroom with its rococo stucco ceiling, the baroque castle chapel and the historic wine cellar contribute to its cultural richness. Extensive gardens and woodlands, orchards, barns and sheds offer further potential for a wide variety of uses. In the midst of an idyllic landscape, »Collection Nobilis Estate No. 9« allows you to realise your own ideas of living and working in a stylish and practical way.
