An authentic Walser house — your new retreat
The charming mountain village of Trans is located on a sunny high terrace above Domleschg, just before the Rhine Valley merges into the Viamala Gorge. Surrounded by mountain meadows, historic Walser houses and a listed church, there is a unique view of the Rhine Valley, the surrounding castles and the peaks of the Grisons Alps and across to Italy. The mild climate and the particular peace of this landscape give the place a timeless, almost magical atmosphere.
In the middle of the historic village center, right on the cozy village square, is the Chesa Veglia — the oldest Walser house in Trans from the 16th century. The building was extensively and carefully renovated in 2009, with the electrical, heating, kitchen and bathroom being updated in a contemporary way, while retaining the valuable historic elements such as knitted walls, beamed ceilings, doors and the natural stone floor. Further work on the façade and technology followed in 2019, combining authentic history with modern living comfort and offering a retreat that is pleasantly reduced to the essentials.
The surrounding area combines originality and easy accessibility. Farm shops and organic farms characterize the rural landscape, while the villages of Tomils and Paspels can be reached in just a few minutes. Despite its quiet location, Trans is close to the San Bernardino axis, meaning that Chur, Liechtenstein, Austria, Italy and St. Moritz can be reached in a short time. The region is a paradise for outdoor lovers: hiking, biking, paragliding, mountaineering, golfing or cultural trails such as the viaSpluga and the Walser Trail offer countless opportunities. In winter, well-maintained trails, cozy family ski areas and the large ski arenas of Laax/Flims and Lenzerheide await.

The tour begins via a south-facing entrance in the basement, where massive ceiling beams and natural stone slabs create an archaic atmosphere. A rock cellar is ideal as a wine cellar. On the ground floor, the modern kitchen with cooking island and fireplace forms the communicative center of the house. An adjoining dining room with a historic soapstone stove and a versatile living room represent flexible living concepts. The balcony offers a magnificent view of the alpine landscape.
On the upper floor, the very beautiful historic rooms with a living and gallery area are impressive. Two characterful rooms — one with wooden floorboards, one with rustic charm — are ideal as bedrooms, guest rooms or work spaces. The high-quality bathroom with an open roof structure and flush-mounted shower completes the offer.
Die Chesa Veglia is a place that, with its silence, clear mountain air and overwhelming views, conveys a feeling of freedom and coming home at the same time — a rare retreat in the midst of the Graubünden mountains.
