A property with numerous
Usage options
Like the ideal image of a country estate, a castle nestles picturesquely on the sunny slope of the lake back, between Thur Valley in the south and Lake Constance in the north. From the elegant Baroque castle with moat, chapel and cheerful south façade, you can enjoy a wide view of fields, meadows and forests. On clear days, the snow-covered alpine panorama glitters on the horizon.
“Collection Nobilis Estate No. 9” consists of a west and south wing as well as a short east wing, which, together with a castle chapel, are grouped around an idyllic courtyard with a rippling fountain. Inside, magnificent Baroque and Rococo stucco ceilings, elegant parquet floors, a neoclassical fireplace room and many other, lovingly restored details leave a lasting impression. With its numerous rooms arranged in series, the castle is suitable as a private country and family residence, apartment building, boutique hotel, gourmet restaurant, seminar center or company headquarters.
The location combines rural idyll with excellent accessibility: In around 15 minutes you can reach Kreuzlingen, Constance, Frauenfeld or Stein am Rhein. Schaffhausen and Winterthur can be reached in around 30 minutes by car, and in less than 45 minutes the big city of Zurich. Farm shops and primary school are close by, and other shopping facilities and schools are located in Müllheim and Steckborn.
Beautiful walking trails lead directly from the castle through Bachtobel and to sights — such as to the Baroque church in the village of Homburg, to Pfyn with its traces of settlement from the early Neolithic and Roman times, or to Stein am Rhein with its wonderfully preserved old town. On Lake Constance, other castles, wineries, beach resorts and various water sports invite you to enjoy. In Lipperswil, a golf course and an amusement park complement the offer.

The origins of the castle date back to the 13th century: The Klingenberg ministerial family built a castle visible from afar on the rock behind the current castle. Henry II of Klingenberg (c. 1240—1306), canon of Zurich, patron of the minstrel Hadlaub and bishop of Constance, is the most prominent representative of the family. After the fall of the Klingenbergs, the Haidenheim family took over court rule.
In 1651, the complex was purchased by Muri Abbey in Aargau, which pursued an ambitious Baroque building program as part of the Counter-Reformation. The castle's numerous coats of arms of the building owner, Prince Abbot Plazidus Zurlauben, bear witness to this. After several fires, the current Baroque three-wing complex was gradually built. In the course of secularization in 1841, the castle came into private ownership and the medieval castle was demolished. In the 20th century, the Santo family brought the historic walls to life with a restaurant. Since 1960, a comprehensive restoration program has been carried out involving the protection of historical monuments.
The Baroque castle draws its particular charm from the harmonious interplay of architecture, history and landscape. The magnificent ballroom with rococo stucco ceiling, the baroque castle chapel and the historic wine cellar contribute to the cultural wealth. Extensive garden and forest areas, orchards, barns and crests offer further potential for very different usage ideas. In the midst of an idyllic landscape,” Collection Nobilis Estate No. 9 “allows you to realize your own ideas of life and work in a stylish and practical way.
